St. Louis Grammar School, Kilkeel and academic excellence go hand in hand and this year’s Year 12 students have continued to strengthen that theme. The recent excellent A Level results attained by the sixth form students at St. Louis have now been followed up with similar successes at GCSE level of the Year 12 students.

Head of Year 12, Mrs Brenda Cunningham, congratulated students and their parents as they opened their envelopes containing the details of their wonderful achievements. “These students have worked so hard and I’m delighted that they have achieved such excellent results – a testament to the efforts put in by the students and their teachers”, declared a very happy Mrs Cunningham.

Reflecting on another year of high academic achievement, St. Louis Principal, Mr Kevin Martin praised the efforts of all involved in this special day. “Congratulations to all our Y12 students who have performed so well in their GCSEs, their hard work and dedication to their studies have paid dividends. A special work of thanks to all the teachers and support staff who have worked tirelessly to ensure all our students reached their full potential”.

The Year 12 students can be proud of their achievements a magnificent 99% of students achieving at least 7 + A*-C grades at GCSE. Ten St. Louis students performed with great distinction attaining 8 or more A*-A and 3 students attained 11 A*-A grades. With 30% of grades achieved being A*-A and almost 70% A*-B, the class of GCSE class of 2016 have performed with great distinction.

Mr Martin has always acknowledged the importance of the role played by parents/guardians in students’ success. “It is the strength of the wonderful cooperation between our teachers, students and their parents/guardians that have enabled the successes we witnessed here today”, Mr Martin concluded.
With the new academic year commencing almost immediately, the vast majority of these students will continue their studies at AS/A2 level in St. Louis. Their GCSE success has laid down a magnificent foundation upon which they can develop further along their chosen career paths and we wish them continued success with their chosen AS/A2 subjects.
