What better way to end the school year than playing the sport you love in glorious summer sunshine. At St. Louis Grammar School, Kilkeel, students of Years 8 to 10 enjoyed ‘Blitz’ tournaments in Gaelic Football (for both boys and girls), and Camogie.

Mr Niall McAleenan and Mr Oliver Sloan organised a football blitz for the boys in Years 8 and 9 playing under Kilmacud ‘7’s rules. This was a keenly contested competition in which ‘Dublin’, led by Jack Houlhan and Ronan Kelly emerged as winners. The fun factor was evident as well as a high level of skill, but the competition heated up with many great games on view. The quality of football talent on display suggests that there maybe more Ulster titles on their way to St. Louis adding to this year McAvoy Ulster Colleges title success.

Mr Steven McVeigh organised a tournament for the Ladies footballers in Years 8-10. With the level of performances being exceptionally good, Connacht, led by Caitlin Grant and coached by Megan Fitzpatrick, emerging victorious. Players currently associated with the Down development squads showed their class and encouraged others throughout the tournament.

Also adding a sporting end to the year were the young ‘Camogs’ in the school. Organised by Mrs Rosemery Colgan and assisted by senior students Oisin McCann and Niall Quinn (both hurlers), the Camogie blitz brought down the curtain on an excellent year for the sport at St. Louis, as the senior team collected an Ulster title last December.
