Sixth Form studies are the stepping stone to higher education and a place on a university course. It is important that young people make the right decisions to set them on a career path which may shape their future lives.

Head of Senior School at St. Louis Grammar School, Kilkeel, Mr Eamon McGlue is clear about the role St. Louis can play at this important time. “St. Louis offers its students a high quality level of teaching and learning experiences, encouraging its AS/A2 level students to achieve their very best.” He continued, “We have always been delighted to welcome students from other schools to join our Sixth Form and go to great lengths to ensure they settle at St. Louis, both socially and academically.”

Mrs Cunningham (Head of Year 13) echoed Mr McGlue’s welcome, highlighting the positive experiences of ‘new Year 13 students’ who have joined the school over the years. “In the past, many students who have transferred into Sixth form from other schools have achieved excellent results, represented the school as Senior Prefects, played central roles in extra-curricular activities especially Football (Boys and Girls) and Camogie, even becoming part of the Senior Student Leadership Team.”

However, Mr McGlue highlighted the importance of sixth form studies as a stepping stone in student’s career paths. “The majority of our Sixth Form students will go on to study at University, some may even go into High Apprenticeship or even directly into employment. Whatever their career path, St. Louis will help them achieve their full potential and offer them guidance at this important time in their lives. “

Mr McGlue and Mrs Cunningham recently welcomed new Year 13 students who had previous studied at other schools, to St. Louis offering them a hand of friendship and a body of support as the take up their AS/A2 Level students at the school.
