It’s that time of the year again when the staff and students of St. Louis Grammar School, Kilkeel once again have shown that true spirit of Christmas most definitely resides in their school. The annual Christmas appeal from St. Vincent de Paul has become a very proud tradition as much needed food hampers are gathered and prepared for delivery to those who are in need of them.

The ‘Christmas Hamper’ appeal has become the normal activity in the pastoral groups throughout the school in the build up to the Christmas break. Organised by St. Louis Head of Pastoral Care, Mr. Francis Loye with the assistance of the Year Heads and class tutors, it was soon evident the festive theme of ‘giving’ was alive and well in St. Louis.

St. Louis students collected a variety of ‘groceries’ to produce over 70 hampers for nominated families in the Mourne area. The collections, which was coordinated by the COPE students, took place over the past fortnight on behalf of St. Vincent de Paul who will then distribute the hampers.

Mr Loye commented “St. Louis students have once again lived out the ethos of our school, bringing in produce to help families in need in the Mourne Area. We extend our gratitude to the parents for their support of the Christmas Hamper Appeal and of course to our students who have been absolutely marvellous in assembling these hampers.”

He continued, “It is rewarding to know that their efforts will bring much needed relief to a variety of people, including the elderly in the local community”.

On hand to receive the hampers were local SVDP representatives who thanked the staff and students for all their efforts in taking the time to help them fulfil their role in bringing much needed help to many people.
