When you choose to study Drama at GCSE level, you would be looking for stage to express your talents. Warrenpoint Feis provided the platform for many students in the local area, but it was the students from St. Louis Grammar School Kilkeel who impressed the judges the most as they swept the board collecting numerous accolades and trophies.

The Year 12 Drama students have been developing their skills under the expert guidance of their teacher, Mrs Brenda Cunningham. The students were awarded several trophies for their powerful performance of Davey Anderson’s play: ‘Blackout’, including Best Play, Best Performance, Best Producer and Best Moment of Theatre.

There were outstanding individual performances from the St. Louis contingent as well. Maureen McMahon picked up an individual award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of the mother in Blackout, while Melanie O’Hare was awarded ‘Best Individual Moment’ for her portrayal of Beverly in Graham Jones’ play: ‘Dream Jobs.’

Mrs Cunningham was euphoric with the performances of her students, highlighting the student’s application as being a key factor in their success. “I am delighted with both Year 12 group performances and with the students’ commitment to preparing each piece for performance and such success will prove both motivational and highly inspirational, for the younger students at St. Louis,” said the proud Drama teacher.
