St. Louis Host Sports Stars of the Future
Once again the sports stars from local Primary schools descended upon the sports grounds of St. Louis Grammar School, Kilkeel to compete in the annual Gaelic football and netball tournaments.
This annual feast of sporting competitiveness is long well established event in the calendars of the local primary schools and is much anticipated by coaches/teachers and students alike. Organised by the PE Department at St. Louis, this year’s event was helped greatly by the weather, which always adds to such an occasion.
In the Netball ‘Cup’ tournament, All Children’s Primary School, from Newcastle, came out victorious after fending off the serious challenge put forward by St. Colman’s Primary School, Kilkeel. In ‘Shield’ final Aughlisnafin Primary School, narrowly lost out to Grange Primary School.
The boys of Aughlisnafin went one step further in the Football Cup as they overcame a strong challenge from St. Colman’s primary School, Kilkeel. Although the winners had a great opening half in the final, St. Colman’s came back strongly in the second half and made the ‘Finn’ boys work hard for their victory.
The tournament was another roaring success thanks to the efforts of Mrs Rosemary Colgan and Mr Niall McAleenan of St. Louis PE Department, assisted by Miss Aislíng McGivern (Netball) and Mr James Reilly (Football) On presenting the trophies, St. Louis Vice-Principal, Miss Louise Carr congratulated all the schools on their performances.
