A Level Art and Design

  • A must for all creative, artistic students wishing to pursue a career in this huge, exciting field.
  • Through studying GCE Art and Design, students have opportunities to develop an interest in and enthusiasm for art, craft and design.
  • You will also gain knowledge and understanding of media (including technologies) in contemporary and past cultures.
  • You will gain experience in working in a broad range of media including traditional and new media and technologies and will become aware of the different roles, functions, audiences and consumers of art.

A Level Art and Design Entry Requirements

This qualification requires pupils to have:

7 GCSEs A*-C - including English and Maths. A grade 'B' in GCSE Art is essential.

The Art and Design course at St. Louis allowed me to develop important skills and gave me the chance to work with different mediums. I was encouraged to work creatively in my own style. After I graduate I hope to find work in the film or animation industry.

This specification is designed to broaden and deepen knowledge, skills and contextual understanding of a range of art, craft and design disciplines. It prepares students for further study in art and design or in a related field.

  • AS 1: Experimental Portfolio
    (50% AS / 20% A2)

  • AS 2: Personal Response
    (50% AS / 20% A2)

  • A2 1: Personal and Critical Investigation
    (60% A2 / 36% A Level)

  • A2 2: Thematic Outcome
    (40% of A2 / 24% A Level)
